About Auntie Gloria

My name is Gloria Hilina`i Ruiz. Hula fills my soul, my mind, and my life with joy, energy and harmony.  Hula is my connection to the spiritual ancestry that guards, protects us and guides us through our journey on this earth.  Being a practitioner gives a profound gratitude and respect for the people, the culture and the land of Hawaii.  Glad to be a small contribution to its perpetuation.

I have been dancing hula for 20 years, teaching for 15 years, and studied under a master Kumu Hula in Ka`ohao, O`ahu for 13 years. After concluding the first five years of my study program graduated as `olapa – dancer of traditional hula – in August of 2007.  There is so much to learn about Hawai`i, places, people and culture. I will continue studying for as long as I can.

The journey into knowledge is endless and I feel truly blessed to be travelling this path with  the support of my family,  our `Ohana Hula (Hula Family) of Hālau Makana Lani whose wonderful love, commitment and support keeps us moving forward. IMUA!!
